Tarmac Buxton Lime and Cement

Tarmac Buxton Lime and Cement is a supplier of heavy building materials and construction services. The Tarmac Group is a subsidiary of the Anglo American Group, a global player in the mining and natural resource sectors. The total workforce in Tarmac Building Products is almost 3000, of which about 250 work in the lime and cement operations.

Tarmac Buxton Lime & Cement has two installations at Buxton in Derbyshire. At Hindlow, only lime is manufactured, while lime, cement and limestone for chemical and construction use are produced at Tunstead, to the north of Buxton.

At its Tunstead headquarters, Tarmac Buxton Lime & Cement has invested £110m capital in a new pre-calciner dry process cement plant, which replaced the existing 37-year-old wet-process plant. Benefits of the new works include an annual capacity of 800,000 tonnes, improved energy efficiency and reduction of particulate and gaseous emissions.

The project included provision for three rail-linked cement distribution depots at Leeds, Birmingham and London.
