Cementing Good Practice Seminar

The UK cement industry health and safety seminar, Cementing Good Practice: Cement Vision and Targets, took place on 22 November 2005 in Worcester.

Chief executives of the four British cement manufacturers - Castle Cement, CEMEX UK Operations, Lafarge UK and Tarmac Buxton Lime and Cement signed up to the Cementing Good Practice initiative in 2003 and fully supported the industry's second health and safety seminar.

Various initiatives were launched during 2005, and health and safety managers shared key recommendations and how guidance was implemented at their respective works. These initiatives include:

  • Guidance to prevent slips, trips and falls
  • Guidance to prevent hot meal burns
  • Customer Site Safety: Bagged delivery
  • Customer Site Safety: Bulk delivery
  • Reversing aids

Other keynote speakers included John Spanswick, Managing Director of Bovis Lend Lease Europe, on Making it Happen/Zero Accidents, while Clive Brookes from the HSE's Engineering Section discussed Robust Safety Systems.
