Slips, Trips And Falls
Slips, trips and falls are the largest cause of accidents in the
UK cement manufacturing industry, yet simple control measures can
greatly reduce the risk of injury.
The
cement industry health and safety steering group, made up of
representatives from member companies, trade unions and the Health
and Safety Commission, examined a number of these accidents and
identified the causes. Their recommendations are published in
Guidance to Prevent Slips, Trips & Falls, available as free
download from the BCA publications
section.
The publication advises on general maintenance, housekeeping,
behavioural safety, inspections, hazard reporting and installation
of new plant or equipment.
The recommendations and guidance are primarily targeted at the
industry's own employees, but some will also apply to
contractors.
