Use Of Natural Resources

Cement is an essential material for the built environment without which no roads, schools, houses, hospitals or bridges could be built. In order to make cement we need to quarry raw materials such as chalk, limestone and sand. These activities are governed by legislation. The cement industry manages its quarries responsibly and restores them to an appropriate use sympathetic to the local environment. Restoration takes place on an on-going basis rather than at the end of a quarry's natural life. Thus the cement industry fulfils both a management and a stewardship role.
