BCA Stakeholder Forum – Tuesday 16th
September 2008
The fourth UK Cement Industry National Stakeholder Forum
was held at Tarmac Buxton Lime and Cement’s Tunstead Works,
Buxton, Derbyshire. The Forum was an opportunity to review progress
the industry had made towards sustainable development over the past
year and to consider priorities for 2009.
The Forum focussed on key issues for our
national stakeholders, including the current development of a new,
integrated, sustainable construction strategy for cement and
concrete. This strategy is the first step in bringing closer
together the component parts of the concrete industry.

17th BCA Berthold Lubetkin Memorial
Lecture Memorial Lecture - Tuesday 14th October
2008; 1800 to 2000; London
This year the lecture was presented by
FAT, otherwise known as Fashion, Architecture and Taste. FAT have
raised a few eyebrows amongst the architectural establishment. With
an international portfolio of projects which ranges from urban
design and master planning in the Netherlands to the design of
trailer homes for artists in Northern Scotland, FAT challenges both
our preconceptions and expectations. Eccentric yes. Flippant maybe.
But never dull.
The BCA Berthold Lubetkin Memorial Lecture,
sponsored by The Concrete Centre, is a prestigious annual event to
remember the contribution of Berthold Lubetkin and is designed to
celebrate inspirational works by contemporary designers. Previous
speakers include Daniel LIbeskind, Rab Bennetts, Ken Shuttleworth,
Christos Passos from Zaha Hadid Architect, Professor Tony Hunt and
Santiago Calatrava.
